The Motown
Soup Story…
Motown United Ministries (M.U.M.) is a collaboration of
volunteers who want to help the homeless and the hungry. Motown?? Detroit’s Nickname “Motor City” is ‘Motown’ so we just call ourselves Motown
Soup!
DRMM, our major receiving partner, began operations in
1909. They shelter 1200 people each
night, and provide
over 4000 meals daily.
DRMM has locations across the City of Detroit and Highland Park. To learn more check out their web site: drmm.org.
Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica has built a strong
presence of ministry to those on the front lines of helping others. They see themselves as “the hands and feet of
Jesus.” Trinity is not a
receiving partner of dividends generated by Motown Soup. Trinity does provide a State Dept. of
Agriculture licensed kitchen, storage area, a facilitator, and lots and lots of
volunteers
Motown Soup plows every penny of profit back into helping the
homeless and the hungry.
With great products
and lots of volunteer help
Motown Soup has given
back:
2005: $11,000
2006: $16,500
2007: $22,000
2008: $27,500
$77,000 in 4 years!!!
We share 10% of all profits with other ministries
such as Gleaners Community Food Bank, COTS, Grace Centers of Hope, Haven,
Capuchins, MCREST, Macomb Homeless Coalition, Lutheran Child & Family
Services, Friendship House, Lutheran City Ministries, Samaritan House, and
Forgotten Harvest, Pilgrim-I AM My Brother’s Keeper, Open Door at Fort Street
Presbyterian, and South Oakland Shelter.
Know that as you are enjoying our mixes…you are helping feed and shelter those in need. Our motto:
“Good for YOU, Good for the COMMUNITY”
While we add no extra salt to our soups, most begin with a chicken, beef, or
vegetable base which does contain salt.
Each mix makes 2 quarts or more of soup.
Corporate Gifts??
Motown
Soup has the answer to your corporate giving needs. We can build a gift selection just for you.
Motown Soup Menu
Traditional Bean Soups:
·
Sister Rita’s Rainbow Soup Mix.
A combination of Great Northern, black and red
beans, lentils and split peas. Bold flavor, not hot.
·
Captain Mike’s Firehouse Chili. Mix Moderate heat. Kicker packet included to bring the heat up a notch.
·
‘Wholly Chipotle’ Chili Mix Very Hot. For those who love HOT HOT HOT ‘burn your
lips’ Chili.
·
Linda’s Red & Black Bean Soup Mix. Mild
flavor, very traditional tasting soup.
Vegan.
·
Green Split Pea. Boil a Ham bone, add your split peas. Just the right flavor.
Ready In 30 - 60 Minutes Soups:
·
Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup Mix. Egg Noodles, dried vegetables, traditional
flavor. Put on the soup, and make some
grilled cheese sandwiches!
·
Denise’s Delicious Potato Soup Mix An incredible blend of
rosemary, thyme and potatoes. “Like a
great baked potato, but without the skin.”
Even better the next day!
·
Maggie’s White Chicken Chili
Mix--Premium Dehydrated beans make this soup ready in minutes.
Add dairy products to provide smoothness.
It’s chili….and despite the smoothness, it “grabs you” with a moderate
kick.
·
Busha’s Stuffed Green Pepper Soup Mix. Actually
“un-stuffed’ green peppers. A little
brown sugar for a hint of sweet. New in 2009.
·
Chicken Pot Pie Soup Mix. Serve
with crescent rolls or puff pastry.
Thick comfort food with peas, corn, carrots, potatoes and a hearty filling . Slightly
more expensive, but worth it. New
flavor for 2009.
Bread & Desserts:
·
Aunt Frannie’s Back to Georgia Corn Bread Mix. Best when served right out of the oven slathered with lots of real
butter. Serve with our soups. Just a touch of sugar. Prepare as muffins to retain moisture
longer.
·
Dave’s Oatmeal & Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix. Wheat flour, oatmeal, brown sugar and a packet of
chocolate chips to add to the mix.
·
.
Mama’s Original Recipe Very
Chocolate Brownie Mix. So good you don’t need
frosting, but who’s counting…. Great taste, chocolicious. Make as two-bite brownies or as a dessert
muffin. Serve warm, add ice cream, fudge sauce. Sinful. Slightly addictive.
All right, moderately addictive.
Yes, we share profits with groups who are fund raising. Contact us for more information.

Motown
Soup 2008 Sales Create $27,500.00 Dividend, Total
Given Climbs to $77,000.00
(Utica, MI) $27,500 is a
lot of soup! This is the 4th
year of ‘dividends’ from the Motown Soup venture which has now shared a total
of $77,000 with Metro area homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
Motown Soup (also known as Motown United Ministries) is a collaboration of volunteers who produce and sell premium soup mixes
The kitchen of Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica was licensed with the State Department of Agriculture in 2004. Many of the volunteers who make the products also come from Trinity.
While the 2008 ‘dividend’ was $25,000, Motown Soup tithes (an extra 10%) to area shelters and soup kitchens. The major portion of the $25,000 in ‘dividends’ is shared with the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. The DRMM has spent 100 years of providing shelter, food, and more to the homeless and the forgotten in Detroit. They shelter 1200 people each night and provide over 4000 meals each day. Former partner MCREST is also remembered each year with a check.
The ‘tithe’ of $2500 for 2008 sales was shared with Gleaner’s Food Bank, Forgotten Harvest, Macomb Homeless Coalition, Samaritan House (Washington Twp.), South Oakland Shelter, Friendship House (Hamtramck), Pilgrim--I Am My Brother’s Keeper (Detroit), The Open Door at Ft. Street Presbyterian (Detroit),
Many of Motown Soup’s mixes are ready in 20 minutes. This includes the 2009 introduction of Chicken Pot Pie Soup Mix and Busha’s Stuffed Green Pepper Soup Mix
Organizations who sell Motown Soup receive a slice of the sales price. This becomes a win-win project. The homeless and the hungry are the ultimate winners when they are provided services from each year’s ‘dividend.’”
